Website-Promotion-To-Increase-Traffic.com Press Release Benefits are:

  • Over coming the myths
  • The keys to how to write a PR
  • The importance of optimization
  • Importance of how to distribute and follow up

There are many ways to drive traffic to your website. One of the most underrated ways is using a press release (PR). If done properly it has huge potential to give your website a huge boost of targeted traffic.

A PR simply announces information to the public, share holders, journalists and your customers, about what is new with your company. You may be launching a new software program or you have a special event taking place. There are a number of reasons for sending a PR. Word of warning, to many press releases can effect the response rate. Make sure you any send out information that is special in nature.

One of the reasons PR's are so effective, is because they are a content article. Search engines like Google love these type of word documents. The reason is simple, when a search engine sends out its spiders it can easily scan quickly and easily a content article.

My suggestion is to pick a keyword you wish to rank highly and disperse throughout your PR. This way the spiders will know what the content is about and rank you accordingly. This technique is called optimization, and is very effective. More about optimization later.

Press Release Myths

I will list three myths, which effect most business owners.

    1. You Need contacts in the Media

Are contacts helpful in the media, they sure are. Does everyone have these contacts? No! What the average person needs to understand, it is how newsworthy the PR is that is important. Make the information attract emotion in the readers and media, this hooks them into wanting to know more. The media will run with a story whether they know you or not. Make their job easy and create an appealing press release.

    2. Any Publicity is Good

Think about this statement for a minute. How do you react to news stories which are negative? You are unlikely to use that particular service or product. It is much better off not to have media coverage then to receive coverage for negative publicity.

3.You need to be PR Expert

There is no truth in this statement. If you research, increase your knowledge and be persistent, and with the right tools you can become efficient with PR's. If you do not see instant results keep learning and adjusting your content. If all else fails, searching for a consultant is not a bad decision either.

The key to have you PR reviewed by the media, is to understand what they are looking for. There are many different aspects we can discuss here. I have shorten the list down to four key points.

Press Release Distribution - Free or Paid

Like the old saying goes, "In order to make money, you need to spend money."

The saying is true, once you see the below stats.

My friend had a website dealing with off ice hockey training. He was accomplished business man and started this website out of his passion for helping kids.

He sent out a PR in June of 2006 with PRWeb. He spent no money on this PR distribution. He received a total of 2,368 views of his press release.

He sent out a another PR on September 2006 again using PRWeb. This time he spent a total of $80 to have it sent. This time his PR was viewed a total of 6,103 times.

I am not sure what the stats were for his traffic increase. He did mention it was worth the $80. He had a huge jump in traffic to the site with many of those visitors coming back for return visits.

All results vary, I have research results from other PRWeb distribution some with much larger numbers then above. Some other campaigns were much lower.

Either way, Free or Paid you will see increased interest in your business.

My PR Has Been Sent, What Now?

The answer is a very simple one: you follow up with the media outlets you have sent your PR to. This follow up is key for a number of reasons. One, the media may not have received your PR. Two, the PR went sent never went to a particular journalist or went to one that is not in your niche.

Most people develop this one fear that stops us from following up - Fear. Most business owners ignore the follow up process due to the belief they will upset the journalist. In most cases if you have done any research on the type of media or journalist in your niche, they will likely be glad to hear from you.

If you want your business to be featured through the media you have to tell them. The media is very unlikely to call you, so follow up is extremely important. Your aggressiveness on following up will determine your success.

When you follow up give the journalist or media outlet 2 to 3 daysfrom the day the PR was sent. They receive numerous communications and takes them time to sift through them. If it is a time sensitive press release you can call the journalist then next day.

When doing a follow up call it is very important you prepare before calling. There are number of ways to set yourself up for success.
