Signature Box for Website Promotion

Just to review, a resource (or signature) box is 2 to 7 lines with 40 to 50 characters per line. It contains details about your self and your business. It is like a miniature advertisement of yourself. The resource box is placed at the end of your articles, emails, and forum posts.


Signature Box Guidelines

    1. If you can have your resource box state a problem people may have, the solution to that problem and finally how your product/opportunity solves(benefits) this problem. This helps create intial interest which will lead to a click to your landing page.

    2. Test, Test, Test Try different wording in your ads and different landing pages, if you have more than one. Use different problems, solutions and benefits in the ads. See what works best for that particular forum. Testing is key in any discussion board that you participate in.

    3. Do not push your product or opportunity. Make your approach low key in nature. By using the 'problem, solution then benefits' formula, you are aimed for success.

    4. Make sure your link to your product or opportunity is working. If you are thinking: 'DUH', you would be surprised how many times I have clicked a link to find it going no where. Always double check your links.

    Also, track your links. This way you know where your clicks are coming from. It is very important to know if the resource box is creating interest. One of the best tracking companies is

    5. Don't list all your websites in your resource box. Post one maybe two url's that are relevant to the forum you are posting in.

    6. Keep your resource box anywhere from 2 to 5 lines at the longest. Anything more is to aggressive. Key rule, Do not overwhelm your reader!



So where do we go from here? Our next step will be how to design your signature box. I will first explain the basic version then add in some more advanced tips. Here is what I suggest:

Basic Version Signature Box
  • Your website address: Please remember to double check all your links before allowing your resource box to go live.
  • The problem: In 1 to 2 short sentences explain a common problem in your niche. Be very concise and to the point, do not ramble.
  • The solution: Explain the benefits of your product and how it can solve the problem. This must intrigue them enough to lead to the click to your landing page.

Advanced Version Signature Box

I suggest you add these only at the right time and in the correct forums. If this is done correctly this will maximize your results.

  • Free E-Book: This may help you by promoting the solution to your problem. This can also help establish trust. Which can lead to future interaction
  • Ezine subscription page: This a great way to promote your self and to gain more trust with prospects that are interested with your information. This can lead to further opportunities to promote your product or service.
  • Anchor URL to build Search Engine traffic: This is an advanced level strategy. If you want to the ability to have high search engine relevancy, you can link your keyword from your signature box to your website. Be careful that you do not use this strategy to much, because the search engines can penalize you.
  • Backlinks: Every time you post on a forum, leave your URL. This increases the number of backlinks to your site. The search engine spiders like these backlinks and help you with your website's ranking.



To Free or not to Free

Is the word FREE worth putting in your signature? You will have to test to see what type of response you receive if you use the word FREE in your resource box. I do not use it. I find people who like the word FREE, are not people who are committed to buying and have no perceived value for what is being offered. However, in your area the word FREE help to create the interest that you are seeking. You may need to rely on trial and error to see if FREE gives you the traffic or prospects that you are looking for.



Finally, put your signature box every where. Your emails, articles, even your business cards. You never know who might see it. If you send an email to a friend and she forwards it to her group of friends. One of those friends sees your signature box and clicks on the link. WHAM! They become interested in your business or buy your product. Marketing can be this simple!

If you are struggling to design your signature box, do a search on the web. Look at other people's signature boxes in your niche area. Take ideas of what you like, and put something together you feel will work. Again, Test! Test! Test!
